There's an old joke about not wanting to be rear-ended on the highway by a Ford Probe.
Well, I'd rather be Probed than have the key of God the Mighty Locksmith showing up in my rear-view mirror.
Now, compared to Frank's layer #7, this is not a jaw-dropping effort. But it's not bad at all. The old rules of Layer Tennis -- push the story, expand the references, innovate aesthetically -- are heeded. But the resulting image isn't cohesive somehow. It's just a little rough (which, given the time constraints these designers are under, is understandable). However, I do think the 2D tableau of the road, horizon, and mirror is compelling on its own and deserves high marks.
How will Greg respond? Who will win? Which name will you put in your tweet to take home the prize? (I'll explain how voting works in my commentary of layer 10.)
Let's also take a moment to remember that the name of today's game is giving. If you donate to either Greg's Kickstarter project or Frank's (or both) and tweet about it with the hashtag #lyt, Coudal will throw your name in a bag, and at the end of the match they'll pick out some lucky winners to receive Field Notes gear and stuff from the designers. Donate, tweet, and win!
Play by play commentary for this match is provided, as it happens, by Rosecrans Baldwin.

Congratulations to Mig Reyes, Layer Tennis Season 3 Champion.
Thanks to all the players, commentators and fans who made Season Three of Layer Tennis a big success. And thanks to the crew at Goodby Silverstein & Partners and all the folks at Adobe Creative Suite for making it possible. Watch this space (or sign up for Season Tickets or follow us on Twitter) for news about some special exhibition matches being planned and about Season 4.
Cast your votes on The Championship Match. Both Finalists will receive invitations to play in the post-season tournament for Season Four.
Here's how the voting works. Decide who you'd like to declare as winner and then simply tweet their first name following a hash mark. Either #mig or #noper and, this is important, also include #lyt in that tweet. We'll leave the voting open all weekend and announce our Season Three Champion on Monday.
