The Giants win the pennant! The Republicans win the house! Someone just won Season 8 of Project Runway and I guess it was a big scandal or something, I dunno, but my wife says people got all riled up!
And now, suddenly, we find ourselves in one of those weird moments of cultural peace, like an inexplicable pause in party chatter. No rivalries to watch. No sides to choose. No grudges to nurse. We walk around bereft of meaning. We drift through our days without purpose. We seriously consider renting "Aliens vs Predator - Requiem" so as to have something to root for.
Well fear not, conflictaphiles, LT has got your back. Friday afternoon rapidly approaches, with its weekly heapin' helpin' of strife!
This week's matchup is one of international intrigue, like a super-fancy exhibition game or something. Adam Hill hails from Cape Town, so named because the residents spend their days clad in cloaks and fighting crime. (I assume--if that's not true, I don't want to know). He says his membership in the progressive rock group The Sleepers is "part of the reason I love band posters so so much", and the fliers he has created are archived on his website Flickr account, and elsewhere on the web. And do you want to see one of Mr. Hill's designs transformed into a print? Check out this neato video on the process.
Oleg Pashchenko, meanwhile, hangs his hat in Moscow, Russia. He is an art director at Art. Lebedev Studio, home of the cool, the practical, and the fun to buy. Oleg's work can be found here, and also on Conclave Obscurum, a cryptic website packed with surprise and beauty.
Although Adam and Oleg are separated by half a world, stationed on different continents, ensconced in disparate cultures, their mutual love of art and design brings them together in a way that no other WHOA WHOA WHOA SORRY I sort of forgot myself there. I meant to say: holy crow, the antipathy between these two men is palpable! These dudes are like rabid pit fighters, eager to tear each other to ribbons for our amusement, and they will stop at NOTHING and I mean NOTHING to WIN, CAPITAL LETTERS EXCLAMATION POINT!
So join us tomorrow at 1pm Chicago time for a good ol' fashioned bloodbath. And in the meantime, enjoy the coin flip. Oh god, even this is getting me hot. COME ON HEADS!!!!
Our friends and longtime sponsors at Adobe have a quick survey for Layer Tennis fans. It would mean a lot to us if you could take a couple minutes between layers to answer some simple questions. Thanks a million.
Congratulations to Mig Reyes, Layer Tennis Season 3 Champion.
Thanks to all the players, commentators and fans who made Season Three of Layer Tennis a big success. And thanks to the crew at Goodby Silverstein & Partners and all the folks at Adobe Creative Suite for making it possible. Watch this space (or sign up for Season Tickets or follow us on Twitter) for news about some special exhibition matches being planned and about Season 4.
Cast your votes on The Championship Match. Both Finalists will receive invitations to play in the post-season tournament for Season Four.
Here's how the voting works. Decide who you'd like to declare as winner and then simply tweet their first name following a hash mark. Either #mig or #noper and, this is important, also include #lyt in that tweet. We'll leave the voting open all weekend and announce our Season Three Champion on Monday.
