Heeere’s Johnny!

“Wear flannels,” advises to Emily Post to gentleman playing tennis. “The main thing is to dress appropriately. ....The well-dressed man is always a paradox. He must look as though he gave his clothes no thought and as though literally they grew on him like a dog’s fur, and yet he must be perfectly groomed.”

That was, bear in mind, in 1922, and not for a multi-national match of digital characteristics. It does lead one to consider the etiquette of the game.

Whether our opponent is or is not dressed appropriately over there in the middle of the night behind the glowing screen, Reichenstein does look like he's doing this effortlessly. There's a bit of savoir-faire in this layer as a 1980 Nicholson rips through the peaceful rainbow of Number 4.

The narrative has disappeared as has our visored friend. The opponents are fierce and Jack has taken center stage. The curtain, importantly, is not opaque though, and could be that there is more to be revealed. The narrative might be continued. Who else might appear and from what era will they come? Will the narrative thread continue? Are the volleys getting more difficult to serve? What is at the end of the rainbow?

Weigh in over in the crowd.
