Here’s what I want you to do: Open up all 10 volleys from this match in a single browser window, in order, left-to-right.
If you don’t know them already, find the keyboard shortcuts for your web browser’s commands to flip between the next and previous tabs. Now you can flip between volleys, instantly, keeping the 900 × 280 pixel playing field in the exact same position on your display.
This match plays in three acts: 1-3; 4-6; and 7-10 — go through them one after another and they play like three separate motion graphics. 1-3 play as a sort of prelude, or overture. I particularly love the transitions from 4 to 5, and 7 to 8.
Weaver’s volley 10 brings closure both to the third (yellow) act of the match, and the match as a whole. Again with the self-referential quote that aptly describes the shot in which it appears. The simple, powerful, red-on-yellow palette. Futura Bold. Art, knowledge, the brain. Even the red circle returns, as a period that ends the sentence, and the match.

It’s been a privilege to join you today; my gut says this match is going down as a classic. As explained in the righthand rail, you, the fans, vote to determine the winner of the match. Couldn’t be easier: tweet their last name — #thomas or #weaver — and include the #lyt hashtag in the tweet. The ballot box is open all weekend, and the winner will be named Monday.
Same time, same place next week for another crackerjack match: Frank Chimero vs. Kate Bingaman-Burt, with my pal Alisa Walker in the commentary booth.
Play by play commentary for this match is provided, as it happens, by John Gruber.

Here's how the voting works. Decide who you'd like to declare as winner and then simply tweet their first name following a hash mark.
