Layer Tennis is always a competition, but it doesn’t have to be a fight.
With contrasting talents/taste/abilities, we sometimes see matches where the volleys are attempts to force the match in a direction the other player doesn’t want to go. With Thomas and Weaver, though, I think we’re seeing a tacit agreement on the direction and tone for the match.
I love the look of Weaver’s return here. The colors, the line art illustration, the arrows — they feel right in line with the woodtype “iDEAS” from the volley. But what I like even better: it’s a response to the serve that, rather than adding new words, simply takes away most of the words from the serve. Ideas are a form of telepathy — they move from one brain to another.
Play by play commentary for this match is provided, as it happens, by John Gruber.

Cast your votes on The Championship Match. Both Finalists will receive invitations to play in the post-season tournament for Season Four.
Here's how the voting works. Decide who you'd like to declare as winner and then simply tweet their first name following a hash mark. Either #mig or #noper and, this is important, also include #lyt in that tweet. We'll leave the voting open all weekend and announce our Season Three Champion on Monday.
