Jason Kottke's Layer 6 Commentary

Ok, crowd, you're getting a little too complainy for my taste. It's time to put up or shut up. I issue thee a challenge. [Insert glove-slapping sound here.]

Take one of the layers from today's match, fire up Photoshop or Illustrator, set your egg timer for 15 minutes, and see what you can come up with. Tweet your creations and we'll see if any of them cut the LT mustard. (You'll be working from the flat files and not the layered PS files, so it's a bit harder, but see what you can do.)

Ok, on to Draplin's volley. First of all, talk about your golden showers. And B, Draplin seems be lowering his guard here. Potts wetting his pants has made Draplin realize one of life's universal truths:

We all wear pants, except when we don't.

Except that Draplin's volley leads this commentator down an uncomfortable path of thought. If Draplin's not wearing pants, what is he wearing? And does Potts have time to change out of his before resuming the match? I'd hate it if he's still sitting there, soaked. (See what I mean about uncomfortable?)

Update: The crowd likes this layer. Draplin seems to have a slight edge in their eyes so far.

Play by play commentary for this match is provided, as it happens, by Jason Kottke.

The Layer Tennis Blog

Tomorrow we continue our series of live, experimental Layer Tennis Exhibitions with a motion graphics match between Matt Smithson and Daniel Oeffinger. As usual, the action starts at 2pm Chicago time. Check the time in your area. What is unusual is that the match won't finish until next Thursday. We'll be posting two layers per weekday. We've always wondered what would happen if we gave a couple artists a lot more time to do each volley and this week we'll find out. Commentary is by Jason Koxvold, who knows a little something about LYT and mo-graf. Jason's Match Preview has been posted and so has the coin-flip. jc-today
