Its no secret that the winner of the coin flip has a lot of time to prepare. Too often, first volleys are a bit overcomplicated and leave the opponent with little to work with. Thats not a problem here. Hello, Muller.
"Execute" could indicate a beginning or an end, right? Muller was probably up all night getting ready, but instead of designing, he was reading coudal.com, (and presumably kevindart.com), learning to push our buttons. Specifically, our "Execute" button. Coudal anoraks will recognize that Eurostile and go to their happy place, home to both Aldo Novarese and HAL 9000.
This volley is proof that there's majesty in details. That color could only come from the sixties. The text is just-off-white enough. The blur, grain, distortion, all of it is dead-spot-on, to evoke Kubrick and sixties design in general with only seven letters and one color. Muller is versatile and subtle, knowing that you can say a lot with very little. Like I said, he's a "Designer's designer." Last night, Kevin Dart told me that he's nicknamed Muller "K E R N D O G G," which seems pretty reasonable to me.
So we've just started, but we're already going old-school and cinematic. You know who can spin just about anything into sweet imaginary vintage film collateral? I bet you do. Execute it, Kevin!
SOUNDTRACK: I definitely don't want to see this match go all 2001, but duh.
