Jason Kottke's Layer 5 Commentary

Tweet, Link Monkey!

It’s looking grim for our bikini-clad lass. Face chewed off by locusts?

I saw a tweet earlier that wondered if the bikini lady was at some point going to become a zombie. That time has come, my friends. I'm still thinking Bible here. Follow me if you can:

The lady zombie represents Jesus. Jesus died today, a long time ago. Three days later, on Easter Sunday, he rose from the dead. Someone who rises from the dead is a zombie, right? Ok, so now we've got a modern-day zombie Jesus here, he's a construction worker who is a woman and dressed in a bikini. Naturally she has a Twitter account. But because she's the Son of God (sorry, the gender's getting a little confusing here), she's got like, a whole bunch of Twitter followers that make her feel all crazy and whatnot. Who has time to walk the earth and preach the Word of God if you're having to tweet to your tweeple all the time?

Ok, everyone good and offended now? Relax, it's just a metaphor. Besides, Jillian made me think these thoughts! Bad Jillian!

During the idle moments of the match, I've been playing around with some of the aforementioned intimidating Illustrator™®© tutorials and would like at this time to initiate a three-way tennis match. Since this whole tennis thing is just a metaphor, why can't the commentator join in? I used to be a designer, I can hang with these young scamps. Anyway, here's my volley:

Let's see you hit that one back!

The Layer Tennis Blog

Tomorrow we continue our series of live, experimental Layer Tennis Exhibitions with a motion graphics match between Matt Smithson and Daniel Oeffinger. As usual, the action starts at 2pm Chicago time. Check the time in your area. What is unusual is that the match won't finish until next Thursday. We'll be posting two layers per weekday. We've always wondered what would happen if we gave a couple artists a lot more time to do each volley and this week we'll find out. Commentary is by Jason Koxvold, who knows a little something about LYT and mo-graf. Jason's Match Preview has been posted and so has the coin-flip. jc-yesterday
