At 4pm BST, we British like to serve afternoon tea, but this week, for one week only, two of Britain’s top talents will be serving up delightful dishes of designery goodness.
In the red corner is Simon Cook, of Made-In-England, part man, part moustache, fresh from his work on the identity for the Oxford and Cambridge Goat Race (Yes, it really is a goat race.) In the blue corner is Rex Crowle who was carried here today by the team of tiny creatures that he has created in his own image. You may recognise them from Little Big Planet, Grip Wrench and other such modern diversions.
At first glance, these dapper chaps appear to be classic English gentlemen - Tweed-wearing, ale-quaffing, pipe-smoking, moustache-waxing young dandies, crashing onto the scene like a modern day Holmes and Watson. But inside the studio the truth comes out – they are nowt but two gangling man-children, channelling the idiot glee of the Goons, and the Beano.
So roll up, roll up for a right old British dong-dong. From my viewpoint on top of a Scottish mountain I'll be staring right down the M1, observing this rakish pair as they toil away in their studio. The Pimms is on ice, the strawberries are being creamed and the cucumber sandwiches are warming up nicely. Gentlemen, let battle commence!
COMMISSIONER'S NOTE: The match starts at 4 in the afternoon in London which is 11am in NYC, 10am in Chicago and 8am in LA. Check the time in your area.
