Okay, definitely not a peace offering. I’m a lot of years away from my last all-night D&D session and hence no longer have the vocabulary to accurately describe all the weaponry and armor here. That dog’s dressed like a lobster and he's poking the devil birdhouse with a long stick. Our samurai has grown a raven’s head. Believe it or not I’m sort of a collector of raven art. Actually I’m not that particular. Pretty much a painting of any black bird will get you up on a wall in my house. But if I want to buy this now (and I do) whom do I pay?
I am intrigued by the dog boy's purple sleeves. They are either sleeves or those things you wear to ward of carpal tunnel, which could be a real problem in the pike-wielding community. What I find most interesting, though is how different the art looks in-person. The stickers, while not even evident as stickers at first glance (well-done Xyron Corporation!) they still add a dimensionality that is a little less evident on the screen.
One thing I've really enjoyed about this format (if I may start my summation early) is the way the artists are unable to completely obliterate the previous layer and start over with something semantically related but visually dissimilar. I don't always mind that, of course, but I think the challenge this week has been different than it ever has been in the history of this contest. The only way to take something away is to replace it with something else. Usually in sticker form. But the result has been a real collaboration, not just a competition, and I've found that really exciting. I think Phineas and Dan have, too.
See for yourslef in the layer 9 mini-doc.
