This is how the eye works: light streams through the biconvex lens and collapses to a single point, where it is projected to and interpreted by the brain. Something like that. Dammit Jim, I'm a color commentator, not a ophthalmologist!
So too has Rod taken Mitch flurry of motion, collapsed it to a single image, and taken on the interpretation duties himself. And maybe there's some commentary on the nature of art snuck in there as well--several of the lines veer off into space, never to be observed. Whenever you focus, you lose something in the process; whenever you interpret, you gain.
I love the child in the background, perhaps a reflection of how I am viewing this match from the standpoint of a boy. But where will Mitch lead him? Will we remain safely ensconced in the cinema, watching illusions on a bright white screen, or is it time for us to leave the dream factory and enter the real world?
Play by play commentary for this match is provided, as it happens, by Matthew Baldwin.
