Rejected

Blood sweat and tears.

Took me a few minutes to take this one in. My first impression was that Kalmikoff had simply taken Dawes’s main visual motif from the match and done a zoom out to put it in the context of his own Threadless submission process. Haha, not even good enough for a t-shirt.

But it’s the blood in the corner. It works as a comment on life and art, from the perspective of the rejected. And it works as a comment on the nature of Threadless, and of the game played today, as the one who rejects or criticizes the work of others.

Every rejection, personal, profressional, or artistic, comes splattered with blood. This one just makes it literal.

Play by play commentary for this match is provided, as it happens, by John Gruber.
