There’s no crying in baseball, and there’s no apologizing in Layer Tennis.
One problem here is that the wallpapers he references are perhaps more interesting than the volley itself. There are two elements in the shot — the background and the type. The type is less interesting but dominates the image, and ultimately seems unnecessary. I could have linked to his wallpapers (which truly are lovely) in my commentary, or post-match on Twitter.
The background, sans type, would have made for a much stronger closing volley. Ignore the type and look at what’s there. It’s of course much like his serve, but it’s quieter. More orderly. There was no type in the serve and there ought not have been type here. The image speaks for itself. Order out of chaos. A small win in mankind’s doomed war against entropy.
