Layer Tennis fans Darren and Matt have independently calculated our file's frequent flier miles, and though there's some dispute over Montreal, we're still well over 16,000 miles. That's a lot of honey-roasted peanuts.
Our final volley goes to Me and Mrs. Jones in Singapore. Mrs. Jones (Fanny Khoo) is apparently sleeping through the match, but Mr. Jones (Tom Merckx, like Tom Muller, another Belgian expat) should be ready with a volley any moment here
And here it is I guess you can't keep a good duck down, and he's brought some pals.
A great final slam, incorporating a little bit from most of the other volleys, and, well, ducks and puffins and eagles and such. I like that Mr. J. didn't grab the most obvious elements from other volleys, all that remains of Scott Hansen's serve is the border, and Mr. J. kept it all pretty clean and simple. The last volley needs to hold together and serve as a good souvenir of the match. There was no real narrative to tie up, but this one seems suitably final.
Those are some colors you don't see everyday, either.
SOUNDTRACK
since the first time I typed #LYT into Twitter, I've known the volley 10 song would be PYT. Luckily, you don't have to hear it to get it lodged in your brain because now I find that Michael Jackson won't share it with us. Look at him in his "Say Say Say" video getup on that single cover. How did both of the matches I've commentatified on come back to Jacko? Sorry. I guess I really would rather hear that "cod" song.
