Pork for Thought

My morning's anger, friends, was burnt off after too much wine and pork at lunch, or so I thought. Then Hutch's gladiator roared into view, I poured some more wine, and the spirit of my ancestors -- rusticators, drunk Scots, drunk celebrities with altitude sickness -- kicked in. Let's tear this apart.

To start, I like it fine. Which is to say, not much. It's literal, it's goofy, it was made with Adobe products, all hail their benign monopoly. But if I was a gifted illustrator and designer with time to prepare, is this how I'd open the championship match, an illustrated roar rather than a real one?

I nominate this, "Hutch playing nice." Playing gentle. Meek, even, despite the glinty sword and shadow-ed biceps, as though to draw out his opponent and later demolish him. Will Kox take the bait? Will Kox instead slap right back, and shoot us into new dimensions, new time zones? Will I tire of typing Kox?

To the viewers, by the way, Gruber and I are sharing a small commentator booth in the back of Coudal headquarters, and my god does he always dress like Steve Jobs? Sticky fingers keep going after my wine.

Also, I'm going to ask a question each round and ask that you reply via email (rosecrans@tmny'all!). For the next round, fill in the blanks: Hutchinson is ________; Koxvold is _________. Best answer(s) will get shouted-out appropriately.

Play by play commentary for this match is provided, as it happens, by Rosecrans Baldwin.
