Play-By-Play Commentary

Dual Duels

First, a few corrections / clarifications:

• Glass obtained our damsel in distress from the home page of coudal.com, where it serves as an advertisement for something called the Museum of Online Museums. I have never heard of this "coudal.com", but it looks like an interesting, albeit juvenile, web site.

• Inman's "Jell-O Shots?" question posed back in volley 5 was a pun. Shots = getting shot at. I'm trying to figure out a way to blame Rosecrans (or, as I call him, "Rosencrans") for my missing this bit of cleverness, and I will report back when I do.

• The upside-down word in #3 is "Flight", not "Fight", and so yes, I missed the whole "Fight or Flight" angle. We regret the error.

Now, back to the match in progress:

We're now luxuriating in cross-pollination between today's dual duels. Koxvold's volley #6 yonder was as much a play in our match here as it was there, and the same could be said for this play from Glass. References galore to previous volleys from both matches: Note the glass in the T-Rex's hand. (Question: How does he drink with those arms?) Note the shards in the shattered chart from volley #2 in the other match. Strong, clever, play.

Play by play commentary for this match is provided, as it happens, by John Gruber.

Live Match Blog

Tomorrow we continue our series of live, experimental Layer Tennis Exhibitions with a motion graphics match between Matt Smithson and Daniel Oeffinger. As usual, the action starts at 2pm Chicago time. Check the time in your area. What is unusual is that the match won't finish until next Thursday. We'll be posting two layers per weekday. We've always wondered what would happen if we gave a couple artists a lot more time to do each volley and this week we'll find out. Commentary is by Jason Koxvold, who knows a little something about LYT and mo-graf. Jason's Match Preview has been posted and so has the coin-flip. jc-yesterday

No voting this week, but be sure to sign up for Season Tickets and be the first to get match info and learn how to play in our qualifying matches. Layer Tennis is taking a week off, we'll see you back here on March 19th for our fourth exhibition match. dw-03.05
