Play-By-Play Commentary

Glass's Glass

Glass scores with yet another reference to the other match. (Which match, I will remind you, or at least I will remind my esteemed fellow commentator Mr. Baldwin, is the "B" match.) There's a Star Wars-y feel to those laser bolts, and that's mental comfort food for my 30-something mind.

I once read an interview with Steven Spielberg where he argued, persuasively, that the best character in the Star Wars series was R2-D2 -- constrained in motion and incapable of actual dialog, R2-D2 was still a full, rich, well-defined character. A beeping, chirping trash can on wheels that came across as competent, bold, clever, and somehow even sarcastic.

I see those same traits in this laser-dodging glass.

Noteworthy details: Optical distortion of the girl through the beverage. (Glass must've put a print-out behind the glass when he shot it.) And that mysterious fleck on the left. Not sure why, but I like it.

Play by play commentary for this match is provided, as it happens, by John Gruber.
