We enter the second half of this shebang, and all of my pre-match promises have been broken, except for the obscure soccer references, but there's still time. I get an under-the-table check from Adobe for that headline, though.
The "clean slate" is common enough in Layer Tennis, but thanks to the magic of Flash (Aaah-aaah!) this is the first time we actually get to see how it's done. VanBeater moves the camera again, changes the scale, and breaks the grid, leaving a pulsating buck-toothed Playmobil mushroom cloud. The bomb plane/bird thing looks like a bomb, which is a nice touch, I bet it'll be back. Usually such destruction seems like a childish way to admit you don't know what to do with what your opponent left you, but since James' last return seemed to stick to Trevor's game plan, it seems Trevor essentially bombed (mostly) his own work. But hey, right on. I had no plans for that plant.
Soundtrack to this volley: It'll come to me in a minute. AH suggests "Flight of the Valkyrie," but I'm thinking more like epic stoner rock, maybe "Crystal Skull" by Mastodon? Or the 63+-minute version of "Dopesmoker" by Sleep. I DARE you to listen to that. It'll change your life. Sleep took drugs so you don't have to.
