This is a stunning turn of the tables. Ignoring Drap's call to return to those halcyon days before layers were uber alles, David has smashed the metaphorical ball into Drap's pristine composition. Oh the humanity! With dogged determination David has hit hard and strong. It is vividly clear that he has used his initial retort to take no prisoners. He has virtually obliterated the sanctity Drap established in his first volley with what can only be described as being a full-court, over the net, hit to the sidelines aggressiveness that defied prediction, at least my prediction. And personally, I'm shocked! This is more than a provocation against all that the demure Draplin holds so dear, but I'd go so far as it a slap in the face of European Modernism, an aesthetic and ethic that fought long and hard for legibility and accessibility. Shame, shame!
I can only hope that Drap picks up his racket and lobs one back, not just for the Beggerstaff's (look it up in Meggs!!) but for the Bauhaus, Swiss school, and all the others how believe in the purity of design for its own sake. The next volley will tell us whether Drap is a man of the ages, or just for the volley.
