Play-By-Play Commentary

Come Together

Once again, Jason tries to tie everything together. What's not in this image? Rustboy from the serve; the dropcap from volley 4; the Zombi, frolicking in blood; the murderous clown, returned from the grave; and, of course, the Fly from Brian's last return. As with his opening, Jason takes an all-encompassing approach, striving to find a place for everything, and put everything in it's place.

In some way this match strikes me as the classic battle between Order and Chaos. Jason builds; Brian wipes the slate clean and starts anew, leaving the task of reassembling the pieces to his opponent. One intuitively admires the former approach. But which, really, is as the heart of horror? The Utopian idea of incorporation has it's place in the wide-eyed annals of science-fiction, but Brian's sudden shifts are nearly apocalyptic in nature, reducing all that came before it to ruin.

Plus, entropy is the inexorable fate of the universe. So Brian's got that going for him. Jason's taking a risk, betting against Newton's second law.

Still, a fine entry. And note the not-so-veiled threat: Brian's labor of love, Rustboy, devoured by clowns. Thems fightin' words right there.

Play by play commentary for this match is provided, as it happens, by Matthew Baldwin.
