The final volley from Duerden begs the question: does the pessimist reside in Neil's heart? If not, why the exaggerated frowns? Is this the message from a heartbroken man? Whatever the answer, the artist truimphs with what I think is bittersweet look at the pain in today's hazy, crazy world.
But back to the task at hand: My favorite element in this entire match, hands down, is the skateboarder on the wave in this piece. Almost easy to overlook, given the amplified, hammy people that have shown up, it is these discreet subtleties that I love most about Duerden's work. I love that the lady bug is back. And I love that the teletubbies are still peeking through.
Neil: You leave us with a sad ending. Let's see how The Kid responds.
